A Narrowband Imaging Survey for High Redshift Galaxies in the near Infrared
نویسنده
چکیده
A narrowband imaging survey of 276 square minutes of arc was carried out at near infrared wavelengths to search for emission line objects at high redshifts. Most of the fields contained a known quasar or radio galaxy at a redshift that placed one of the strong, restframe optical emission lines (Hα, [O III], Hβ, or [O II]) in the bandpass of the narrowband filter. The area weighted line flux limit over the entire survey was 3.4 × 10−16 erg cm−2 s−1 (3σ), while the most sensitive limits reached 1.4×10−16 erg cm−2 s−1. Integrating the volume covered by all four optical emission lines in each image yields a total comoving volume surveyed of 1.4 × 105 Mpc3. Considering only Hα emission in the K band (2.05 < z < 2.65), where the survey is most sensitive, the survey covered a comoving volume of 3.0 × 104 Mpc3 to a volumeweighted average star formation rate of 112M⊙ yr −1 (for H0 = 50 km s −1 Mpc−1, Ω0 = 1). This is the most extensive near-infrared survey which is deep enough to have a reasonable chance at detecting strong line emission from an actively star-forming population of galaxies, when measured against simple models of galaxy formation. One emission line candidate was identified in this survey, and subsequently confirmed spectroscopically. Radio Sources near Bright Natural Guide Stars
We present a preliminary survey of 58 radio sources within the isoplanatic patches (r < 25′′) of bright (11 < R < 12) stars suitable for use as natural guide stars with high-order adaptive optics (AO). An optical and near-infrared imaging survey was conducted utilizing tip-tilt corrections in the optical and AO in the near-infrared. Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) were fit to the multiband...

We present results from a survey for z ∼ 2.85 Lyman-Continuum (LyC) emission in the HS1549+1933 field and place constraints on the amount of ionizing radiation escaping from starforming galaxies. Using a custom narrowband filter (NB3420) tuned to wavelengths just below the Lyman limit at z ≥ 2.82, we probe the LyC spectral region of 49 Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) and 91 Lyα-emitters (LAEs) spec...

We present Keck spectroscopy and UKIRT near-IR imaging observations of two 170μm-selected sources from the ISO-FIRBACK survey which have faint counterparts in the optical, and r − K ∼ 5. Both sources were expected to lie at z > 1 based on their far-infrared, submillimeter and radio fluxes, assuming a similar spectral energy distribution to the local ultra-luminous infrared galaxy (ULIRG) Arp 22...

We present an analysis of CO spectroscopy and infrared-to-millimetre dust photometry of 11 bright far-infrared/submillimetre sources discovered through a combination of the Planck all-sky survey and follow-up Herschel-SPIRE imaging – “Planck’s Dusty Gravitationally Enhanced subMillimetre Sources.” Each source has a spectroscopic redshift z = 2.2–3.6 from a blind redshift search with EMIR at the...
متن کاملNear-infrared imaging of the host galaxies of flat spectrum radio quasars
We present the results of a high resolution (0.27′′ px−1) near-infrared H band (1.65 μm) imaging survey of a complete sample of 20 flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQ) extracted from the 2Jy catalogue of radio sources (Wall & Peacock 1985). The observed objects are intrinsically luminous with median M(B) = -25.5. The median redshift of the objects in the sample is z = 0.65. At this redshift, the ...
